New RileyCon website halfway there

website
The new RileyCon website, presumably the one that you are now staring at, is woefully incomplete, but the web-elves are working their bell-festooned pointy-toed boots off trying to bring it up before the next RileyCon. That's a bit more than a month away. Why the new site? Well, it's been ten years since the first site went up, and I thought the RileyCon Universe had outgrown the limitations of the site. The new site takes all of the information from the old site, plus a ton of supplemental stuff that's been gathering magnetic dust on my hard drive for years, and puts it into a database driven website. RileyCon is an intrinsically non-linear experience, and the ten years of progressively building storyline can at times become overwhelming. I'm hoping that this searchable and highly cross-referenced website will make it less unwieldy. Today was a milestone in that all of the text from the old site has been brought across to the new site and has been semantically welded and duct-taped together. Beyond the archiving features, I am hoping to introduce additional features to the website over time. In particular, I'm excited about two-way features that will enable players to post comments, stories, pictures, etc., on the website. So what's working right now? All of the PCs, NPCs, Locations, Timelines, Episodes, etc., are accessible through the Chronogismo. The Chronogismo has been a bit finicky, but seems to be behaving now. Let me know if you have any problems with it. To get the site up reasonably quickly (i.e., before the next RileyCon), I'm not going to finalize the appearance of the site this month, but work more on its functionality. It will get prettier over the next year. In the meantime, though, it will be useful. I hope. Turn to the dark side.Submitted by jack on Thu, 2006-09-21 01:47.
If you'd like to be drupalized, I could give you a blog on this site... When you do get a blog set up, let me know the RSS feed and I'll add you to the nerkigator. |
