The Flag of MonkeydomAfter the Second Leonine War, the Franco-British Empire established by Cornelius increasingly became known as "Monkeydom". Invented by Nikolai Tesla, the TAA was devised to enable the MORLOCs to communicate across the Atlantic ocean despite the Scarlet Lion's anti-technology shield. Relying on intense lightbeams and geostationary zeppelins, the technology was expensive and finicky. The TAA was also subverted by the Leonine Hegemony and used to communicate at night between Berlin and Leonine Moonbase (Babylon).

A trusted lieutenant of the former Emperor of Japan, Mr. Yamamoto overthrew the revolutionary government of 1905 and established himself as Chairman of the People's Democratic Republic of Nippon. He proved an able ruler, and the country prospered under his administration during the early 20th Century. His military prowess enabled him to greatly expand the PDR Nippon during the Second Leonine War.

The Second Leonine War was a global conflict which began in 1938 and concluded in 1945. Although the war was started by the Leonine Hegemony, the Hegemony itself suffered the greatest loss of territory in the conflict. North and South America were united into the newly formed United America, the former Franco-British Empire was consolidated as "Monkeydom", and the People's Democratic Republic of Nippon greatly expanded through Asia towards Eastern Europe. At the conclusion of the war, the world powers created the United Nations at the Dumbarton Oaks Conference.

Casablanca

In early 1939, events converged in Morocco, Casablanca, an ancient city at the crossroads of Africa and Europe, controlled at the time by the Government of Occupied France, loyal to the Leonine Hegemony. The Bejeweled Cat of Zebulon was smuggled into the country in an overstuffed suitcase by Vinny Rabinowitz, an actor from Brooklyn. Ironically, he and world famous director Allen Konigsberg had been hired by the Hegemony to produce a movie "The Kaiser Goes to Rick's" which was supposed to glorify the Fuhrer's triumph over General Cornelius's guerilla insurgency in Northern Africa. As was common at the time, Konigsberg (travelling under the assumed name "Woody Allen") and his film crew travelled from Europe to Morocco in a Zepellin. For security reasons, not even Allen knew the whole plan -- the idea was for them to open a message from A. A. Milne during the trip -- of course, the Hegemony officers on the airship did not make this easy.
